This beginner hand card features 38 hands that are designed to be easier for beginner players to understand and make as they learn to play American mahjong for the first time. It is specifically designed for mahjong instructors to use in their introductory class as an easier option for beginner players than the NMJL card.
The left side of the card--which includes 17 different lines--are all "hands of least resistance," which simply means that they are easiest to make because they are made up exclusively of pungs and kongs--which allow jokers in any number! Most of the 21 hands on the right side of the card are "hands of slight resistance," which include singles & pairs as well as pungs & kongs. If a beginner player finds herself in possession of the single(s) and/or pair(s), then these hands could also be relatively easy to make.
The card is printed on durable cardstock and features the same sections and color coding used in the National Mahjong League's annual card. It is sold in sets of 4.
Your purchase also includes a FREE digital file of enlarged versions of a subset of the lines that you can print on cardstock, cut into strips, and use during lessons as a way for students to practice making the lines. See product photos for a sample of what these look like.
QUANTITY DISCOUNT: If you purchase 4 sets of cards, you will receive a 5th for free (20 cards for the price of 16)! This discount will be applied automatically when you add 5 sets to your shopping cart.
